where are the principals getting added

I have built(heimdal.0.4b.tar.gz) heimdal for ldap and set database in kr5.conf 
[kdc]
     dbname=ldap:ou=kerberosPrincipals dc=padl    dc=commkey_file = /path/to/mkey
i have run init <realm name>,dump and ank <principalname>
but the thing is the whole thing works even after i stop slapd.
Where are the principal being stored?
any clues??
