OS X: Good results from 

./configure --without-krb4 --with-x --enable-shared --enable-static


64-bit Solaris 8: 

CFLAGS=-m64 LDFLAGS=-m64 ./configure \

	--with-openssl=/usr/local/ssl \
	--enable-shared \
	--with-gnu-ld=no

64-bit Solaris 9 is a bit troubly:
