This is required in any case;  the OpenLDAP team advises over and over
and over and over *NOT* to use the RedHat OpenLDAP RPMs.  But it seems
everyone discovers this after hours of work and gets ticked off.

There are sane RPMs available at http://staff.telkomsa.net/packages/
although I haven't tested the smbk5pwd module.
