Other than that we have no fixed dates or places, only places we wish to visit. But believe us, we won't take the shortest route...
In other words; we want to have fun!
Seriously, you can see the route map on these pages but as we cannot guarantee that we can connect and update our position and upload images and diary entrys on a daily basis. Hopefully we will find enough schools, internet cafes and helpful individuals to get by.
The route map shows the last location were we reported in. We start in Boston and just follow the dots, connected with the red lines to see how we have traveled so far.
If you are reading this before the 27th of June The Trip has not yet started. Or if you are reading this after the 28th of July we have probably already come home, which mean that there might be even a bigger photo gallery.
If you are extremely wealthy and wish to contribute to our trip, please feel welcome :-)
In fact, they are even browsable using Lynx (with the exception of a very special internal page), a fact which Max is especially proud of.
JavaScript is used to make some "links" to the previous page, especially from the dynamic pages, like diaryentries and gallery pictures. But it isn't really needed, more a cosmetic effect.
FAQ
Where are you going?
As of now we have no really outspoken plan. The Trip starts during the last days of June in Boston, MA, and hopefully we will reach San Francisco, CA, by the end of July.
Why are you doing these pages?
Because we can! And we wish to share our experience with you, so please tune in tomorrow and see how we are doing.
Why are you doing this trip?
We have to relax sometime, right? So imagine a few good friends, a car and a whole continent. Can it be better?
Where are you now?
Even if we knew we wouldn't tell you :-)
How can you afford this?
We can't. Most of us have borrowed money or are spending every cent we have. So we expect to sleep at the cheapest places, eat at the cheapest places and visit the cheapest places, but it will be fun.
How do I contact you?
We try to read our mail, but as we are six e-mailaholics and only have very limited on-line time we cannot reply on all mail. More information can be found on our contact page
How are these pages made?
They are made using an ordinary browser from which we enter the information into forms. Then CGI:s output the pages which are shown to you. There are no CGIs involved in showing you the text or pictures, this to lighten the load on the server. Still there are some Server Side Includes to make the editing of the individual documents easier/possible.
Why do you use clientside imagemaps/lots of colors/wide images? The pages don't come out well.
We designed these pages to be as viewable as possible on as many browsers as possible, but we want imagemaps to be able to show you where we have been and our camera only saves the images as fixed-size JPEGs, so you'll have to endure.
Can I have the scripts used for these pages?
Well, I havn't decided yet when to release them. I want them to work properly first. And I won't have much time until after the trip, but keep in touch and remind me, then I'll post the source. It is all a bunch of Perl scripts using the CGI- and GD-modules. Nothing magical about them really. I also use ImageMagick for conversion of the pictures and creation of thumbnails.
Waitaminute! If you are Swedes, how come you are writing in English?
Well, English is our second language, and we thought more people could enjoy this page this way. Especially all the people which we intend to borrow computertime from in the US to work on this story!
