Curriculum Vitae : Graduate Courses

Telesystem gk 3p
Basic ideas, construction principles and construction methods in the area of computer communication systems, with an emphasis on network services, communication protocols, and network structures. Fundamental principles and workings of common services such as e-mail, file transfer, telnet, WWW, etc.

Telecommunication systems module on Multimedia Systems (MMS) 2p
Specialization course on network-based multimedia services. The requirements of the network to support multimedia traffic, and the applications. Network real-time requirements, multicast and I/O systems. Compression and Decompression for audio and video and commonly used Multimedia Standards. WWW - HTTP, HTML, scalability problems and solutions, Java, audio and video in WWW . Video Conferencing, 3D, Virtual Reality, VRML. Languages: HTML, Java, VRML, Tcl/Tk.

Internet Multicast 2p
IP multicast-related protocols. IGMP v.1 to v.3 for join and leave a multicast group. Multicast routing protocols for building multicast trees/routing tables, DVMRP, PIM SM, PIM DM, CBT, MOSPF. Services using IP multicast; SAP, SIP, SDP, MBone tools - rat, vic, sdr, wb, IP/TV, Internet Multimedia Conferencing Architecture. Addressing using IP class D addresses, IP Class D address reservations, dynamic multicast address allocation, mapping of multicast addresses on link layer addresses such as IEEE 802.3 and ATM. QoS-guarantees in muticast communication, RSVP, Class Based Queing, Reliable Multicast (SRM), Layered Multicast. Practical laborations on how to set up a DVMRP-based IP multicast overlay network with tunnels, interfacing to PIM, and analyzing protocol traffic.

Reading Seminar on Performance Evaluation 6p
Simple and straightforward performance analysis techniques, such as probability theory, statistics, experimental design, simulation and queuing theory. Also include workload analysis and specification. The reading seminar was based on the book by R. Jain: "The Art of Computer Systems Performance Analysis", Wiley & Sons Inc, 1991. Seminars included examples of use in real-life research.

Telecom system design seminars. 4p
Joint course between Stanford University and KTH on Multimedia over the Internet. Distributed Multimedia Computing, Communications Infrastructure, Information and Entertainment, Audio and Video Communications and On-line Service Providers in the Multimedia Future.
