Try running truss/strace and/or tcpdump on kinit, it might be waiting
for something that slows things down.

Having said this, Kerberos 5 is slower than Kerberos 4 (mostly a
function of it being more secure), but you shouldn't be bothered by
this on reasonably fast machines.
